A Rainy Day Doesn’t Have To Be Boring
It's raining, it's pouring, it doesn't have to be boring! For most of us, rainy days are an excuse to curl up in our pajamas all day, binge Bravo, and scroll our social media pages all day. But if you live in a place that rains often, we're guessing this might get old and boring after a while.
Plus, we're starting to think it's not good for our mental health to rewatch Real Housewives as often as we do. So, we put together a list of indoor activities to do next time it rains. We're hoping this list will help us start shaking things up and make life a little more exciting when we feel like there's nothing for us to do (especially right now, thanks to COVID). We hope it comes in handy for you as well!
1. Arrange A Game Day
Let your competitive spirit out and play your games. If you find yourself alone on a rainy day, video games are an excellent option for connecting with people in other places. Not only can you talk while playing, but you can get all that pent up energy out!
Board games are also a classic, fun thing to do on a day spent in the great indoors, especially if you have little ones.
2. Hit A Museum
Rain, shine, snow, or hail, spending the day indoors exploring cultural treasures is always a delight. Depending on where you live, you could be close to world-class museums or historical libraries that are just waiting for you to explore!
These days, some museums like the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, or the Adler Planetarium even offer virtual tours and special exhibits that you can visit entirely online!
3. Enjoy A Good Book
Every New Year, we vow that we'll start reading more. We buy a ton of books that we're excited to read, and then, come February, all our new books do is collect dust because life gets in the way. Perhaps you are a more avid reader than we are, but regardless, a rainy day is an ultimate time to submerge yourself in a book.
Prepare for the rainy days ahead and start picking out your next book now. A good source for finding your next read: Hello Sunshine. Founded by Reese Witherspoon, Hello Sunshine is a media company that is on a mission to change the narrative for women. Because Bev is a women-owned and run company that happens to have major girl-crushes on Reese Witherspoon, we obliviously are huge supporters of Hello Sunshine.
4. Set Up Your Own Wine Tasting
Sip, sip, hooray! We are the type of people who believe that wine tasting is always an option and always a good idea. And might we suggest your first tasting be of Bev's different wines? On our store website, you can find all our wines and the best part is they can be delivered right to your door! Our Bev Ladies' Night variety pack comes with our original crew of Bev Rose, Bev Blanc, and Bev Gris! We recently introduced two new flavors that we highly suggest you add to your wine tasting party! These are Bev Glitz and Bev Noir.
Although we're feeling relatively confident that we've convinced you to hold your tasting, we have a few more reasons why you should start with Bev. For starters, did we mention we're ZERO sugar? Yup, each of our girls happens to have no sugar, meaning you can, sip, sip hooray! Plus, we come in cans, so you don't have to worry about any leftover, half bottles laying around after your tasting! We could go on and on about ourselves, but alas, we promised a blog on rainy day activities, not about ourselves!
5. Treat Yourself To A Bubble Bath
Take your nighttime routine into the daytime. Let us ask you a serious question: when was the last time you really sat in a bath, lost track of time, and let your trouble truly disappear? Que Chandler Bing saying, "It's hard to care when you're this relaxed." Seriously, set time aside in your day to just float your worries away. If you need further convincing, we have good news! Even science agrees baths are good for us.
One health benefit of a bath: it's good for your tinker! While bathing in too high of temperatures can put a strain on your heart, particularly if you have a pre-existing heart condition, taking a warm bath will make your heartbeat increase and give it a healthy workout.
Another benefit: it's good for your lungs! Immersing yourself in water past your chest with your head still out greatly influences your lung capacity and oxygen intake. Why? Because of the temperature of the water and the pressure the water places on your lungs. The warm water makes your heart beat faster, and therefore, your oxygen intake is improved while the steam created clears your sinuses and chest.
And just in case you need one more excuse to float your worries away, another health benefit of taking a nice, warm bath is they take care of your blood and immunity. A warm bath makes your blood flow easier and makes it more oxygenated by allowing you to breathe deeper and slower. A hot bath can kill bacteria and improve immunity while simultaneously relieving the symptoms of cold and flu.
6. Movie Marathon
A movie marathon is always a good idea. And while we personally believe that Harry Potter marathons never get old, we understand that some might not want to watch all of the movies again for the hundredth time. Shake things up, and binge-watch a new series. Don't worry, we, of course, have some suggestions.
Star Wars: Guess their galaxy isn't all that far away after all! If you have a Disney Plus membership, you can now marathon all twelve movies! Plus, if you happen to find yourself engaged, you can jump over to binge-watching the Star Wars show, "The Mandalorian," as well.
Twilight: Remember in the early 2000s when everyone was obsessed with sparkling vampires and hunky werewolves? Oh, those were the days! Get lost in your teenage memories and watch all five romance fantasy films based on your favorite adolescent novels. And for the record, we're Team Edward.
Shrek: In case you missed it, there are actually FIVE Shrek movies now. While the first will always be the most classic, we highly suggest going back and rewatching the animated features. Trust us, the adult humor they pack in there that goes way above children's heads is always surprising, but a treat, nonetheless. And in the morning, please don't forget to make waffles.
Jurassic Park: Now that we've both lived through a pandemic and know that dinosaurs won't return (crosses fingers), we finally feel mature enough to watch the films that once gave us nightmares. The series consists of five films, with the last films allowing Chris Pratt to grace the screen. And pretty sure Chris Pratt can definitely cure any rainy-day blues you may be experiencing.
7. Play Chef For A Day
Use your time to cook the most delicious meal! On your average day, we typically put our noses up to any recipe that will take us more than 30 minutes. But if you have all day, go for it! Pop on a fun playlist, dance around the kitchen, and have an all-around good time.
And if you want to try your hand at baking, chocolate chip cookies are well-loved by...well, everyone! You could even try out something more funky, like microwave s'mores, if you want to try something different. You can please the whole family, because every time is the perfect time to make something delicious, rain or shine.
8. Get Your Craft On
Can we be real for a second? We have a list of DIY projects that we've been dying to get to but have never found the time to do them. Whoops! Next rainy day, we're going to start on that list, and we suggest you do the same. If you have a friend or family member's birthday coming up, why not take the time to make something personal.
If you need a kick to get started, here are a few crafts we have on our to-do list:
Homemade Bathbombs: Clearly, everyone should be taking more baths based on the scientific evidence we presented above. And you know what makes baths even better? Bath bombs! Make them as gifts or for yourself -- they're easy and fun!
Coasters: Growing up, we thought our moms were dramatic when they'd yell at us for putting our cups on certain tables or furniture. In retrospect, we were little jerks because we now fully appreciate coasters! With a few tiles and paint, you can make coasters that have all your guests asking you where you bought them!
Vases: If you drink kombucha or beverages that come in glass bottles, you are sitting on a landmine of future beautiful vases. With a little bit of paint, you can make yourself gorgeous vases, and then you can force your significant other to bring you flowers so you can fill them.
It Might Be Gray Outside, But You Don’t Have To Be
You know what they say, right? The sun will come out tomorrow!
